Jeff Ethington started his career in the medical field when he graduated from the United States Army Medical Center of Excellence in San Antonio, TX in 2003. Upon graduation, he was awarded the Military Occupational Specialties (MOS) of Healthcare Specialist (Combat Medic) and Orthopedic Specialist. Upon return, he attended the University of Wisconsin – Madison in pursuit of his Bachelor of Science in Legal Studies. In 2006, he was forward deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom for 29 months, first as an Orthopedic Specialist and then as a Senior Medical Advisor/Combat Medic.
Following these tours of duty, Jeff returned to Madison and completed his B.S. in Legal Studies while simultaneously attending Madison College for his EMT – Advanced certification. In 2008, upon completion of his degree and certification, he began work as an Emergency Department Technician in UW Health’s Level I Trauma Center Emergency Department.
In 2014, Jeff changed career paths and was hired as a Surgical Recovery Coordinator with UW Organ and Tissue Donation (UW OTD). In 2021, Jeff was hired as the Centralized Recovery Center Program Manager for UW OTD, where he currently works.
During his time at UW OTD, Jeff served 13 months as the Senior Enlisted Advisor in the Eastern Province of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Upon return within a short time he was mobilized to Fort Leonard Wood, MO as a Basic Combat Training First Sergeant. During this time, Jeff was able to attend Penn State – World Campus where he attained his Master’s in Professional Studies (MPS) – Homeland Security in Public Health Preparedness, graduating with a 4.0 GPA.
Currently in the US Army Reserve, Jeff serves as a Brigade Command Sergeant Major for the 330th Medical Brigade out of Fort Sheridan, IL.
Within UW OTD, Jeff has some additional areas of special emphasis including, but not limited to: Emergency and Business Continuity Preparedness; Employee Education and Key Competencies; Internal Auditing of Standard Workflows; Emergency Preparedness and Safety Liaison to UW Health; and Organizational Representative for South Central Wisconsin Healthcare Emergency Readiness Coalition (SCWIHERC).
